When you do a job for your studies (an essay in which you want to include some photos, a video in which some graphic material would be useful, or a background music, a presentation in which you want to include some graphics), you save a lot of time if you reuse materials you find on the Internet. However, the fact that a work is available on the Internet does not necessarily mean that its author has given you permission to use it in your work. Fortunately, there are a type of works for which the author has given me permission, and I can reuse them without problems: they are free works.
In this seminar, we see what these free works are, how to recognize them, and how to find free works of various types. We also talk about how to make your own works free, and what implications (positive and negative) it can have for you.
Among other topics, we cover the following:
- Copying, reusing, is not (necessarily) bad
- What are free works?
- Can I use a free work in my jobs?
- The main free licenses
- Location of free works: images
- Location of free works: audio
- Location of free works: videos
- Location of free works: other elements
- How to make my work free (and what I gain from it)
