The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is an initiative funded by the European Commission, conceived with the objective of promoting Open Science in Europe. Open science fosters the creation of new knowledge, inspires education, incentivizes innovation, and promotes accessibility and transparency.
The EOSC is a federation of several open cloud services, designed to support European open science projects. It offers researchers a virtual environment with open services for storing, managing, analyzing, and reusing research data.
Existing data infrastructures will be grouped into a single one, the European Research Data Commons, where data will be openly accessible and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). This aims to overcome national borders and improve collaboration between scientific disciplines.
The EOSC Association was established as a legal entity on July 29, 2020, with the CSIC as one of its founding members. On June 23, 2021, the “Memorandum of Understanding” was signed, formally constituting this organization.
The Rey Juan Carlos University participates as an observer in this organization.
The European Commission funds the EOSC through projects belonging to the Horizon Europe program. Below, you can see the projects that contribute to the development of the EOSC:
